Okay, I know that I stopped writing about Trendy Holiday attire when my deadline for holiday orders passed…but I just had to share this great photo idea because it was too good! Maybe I will inspire some of you to set up a session for a New Year’s Card!
In a brief moment of weakness I picked up an InStyle magazine last week, maybe because the cover had an article “How to Look Amazing in Photos”. Which ended up to be nothing about fashion and a tiny article about how celebrities stand in photos! BUT in an effort to make the most of my $3.99 magazine, I skimmed the pages. To my surprise I found some great holiday photos of the Editors which inspired me with (or allowed me to copy) a great idea for today’s post! *grin*
I know these are photos of all adults. I believe this idea could work with family members of all ages young and old, men, woman, boys or girls and everyone in between. Here is the idea for the photo, everyone was dressed in dark colors black or deep purple head to toe. Skirts, shorts, tops, tee shirts, jeans, turtlenecks, short sleeves, dresses, jackets it all worked as long as everyone is in a dark color. Then all they did was have everyone add a jewel toned scarf to their outfit. Scarves were tied, wrapped, twisted, draped it didn’t matter. It worked. It worked because it was coordinated but allowed everyone to feel confident in their own clothes that were age appropriate. Also, a scarf is much more inexpensive then purchasing an entire outfit! More money to spend on photos!
Even for kids or seniors add a colored hat or legwarmers for a baby. The concept is great and creates a stunning photo that you will be happy with for many years.
This one scarf from the GAP only $24.50 each comes in 3 jewel tones!
Etsy has thousands of choices at all different prices you can shop for the whole family or make a custom order with a vendor. So easy!

FYI — The Gap had scarves for $10 yesterday!
You could do this with multi-family sessions with grandparents – each family wears a different color scarf!
Thanks for the heads up Ellen and Pam – FABULOUS idea!!
