Ok….raise your hand if you’ve completed your holiday shopping. Anyone? Yoo-hoo? Hmmmm. That’s what I thought! Me neither. And I’m positively horrified at the thought that I’m going to be one of ‘those’ people out there doing what I like to call “lunatic shopping” tomorrow! So disappointed in myself. Who took proactive Kelly and replaced her with Kelly the procrastinator? Well, I suppose that’s something else I can add to my list of things to do: stop procrastinating. S’pose I’ll get to that…someday {sigh}.
And that, my friends, is the perfect segue into why I left you all hanging out there last night, with no Around Town post, on a cold winters’ night. Shame on me. Actually, shame on Bella and Edward for getting married (finally) in Breaking Dawn. Uh-huh. Had me up ’til 1 o’clock in the morning devouring every single word the instant I opened it and started reading. Anyone else reading the Twilight series? I finally gave in and am enjoying myself thoroughly! It would make a great gift for someone this year…..

This all-new original work, written by Jamie Carmichael and Bill Taylor and presented through generous support of the Alliance for the Arts, The City of Fort Myers and The Southwest Florida Community Foundation, is a hilarious take on the classic holiday poem. It is full of high energy, broad, family friendly comedy perfect for a festive holiday outing. Twas the Night Before Christmas” originally titled “A Visit from St. Nicholas” is a poem first published anonymously in 1823. Authorship was later attributed to Clement Clarke Moore. It is largely responsible for the conception of Santa Claus from the mid-nineteenth century to today, including his physical appearance, the night of his visit, his mode of transportation, the number and names of his reindeer, and the tradition that he brings toys to children. Prior to the poem, American ideas about St. Nicholas and other Christmastide visitors varied considerably. The poem has influenced ideas about St. Nicholas and Santa Claus beyond the United States to the rest of the Anglosphere and the world.
Tickets are FREE, but donations will be gratefully accepted at the performance. Call Theatre Conspiracy at 239-936-3239, or click here for more information.
Give back….and receive
There’s no better time to think about giving back to your community than the holiday season. And if you’ve ever thought that you couldn’t possibly make a difference – think again. You CAN. There are so many people with so many needs, and so many more willing to give of themselves selflessly to help. It can be as simple as helping an elderly person load their groceries into the car. Or as grand as making a child’s wish come true. Whatever you can do, never ever doubt the significance of helping one another out. If you’d like to see what opportunities are open in your community, or would like to support a cause, then please head over to iparticipate.org and type in your zip code for a complete list.
