Redecorating?

You may have noticed the blog posting has slowed down a bit in the last week. I promise, my reasons were valid. I’ve been in high gear trying to finish up the long.drawn.out.redesign of the lifexpressions website - yep - I’ve let the cat out of the bag now, we have a new website!! Can ya tell I’m a little excited?? This is simply phase one of the many plans I have in store as lifeXpressions celebrates it’s 5 year anniversary. Stay tuned for updates, {hint: subscribe to our feed if you haven’t already} I see a bright future ahead and I am really looking forward to sharing it with you all!

So what are you waiting for?!! Have a look at the new improved lifexpressions website and let me know what you think! I hope that you all will love it as much as I do! You still here?? Go!! Like now people!!

Waiting Out Fay

Nick & Liv survey the neighborhood as Fay makes her way out of Southwest Florida.

To quote my youngest two, “Storms STINK!” We’ve been without power since about 5:30a, listening to the howling wind and rain is only entertaining for so long…we’ve run through three Olivia the Pig stories, two games of Candy Land, one game of Uno, and the battery is dead on the portable DVD player. Now they’re both running through the house singing, “Fay, fay go away. Come again some other day.” I don’t believe they honestly want Fay to come again another day. Oh Florida Power and Light….where are you? Please come to our rescue soon!

The battery on the laptop is getting low and my palm is not especially fond of being a modem so I will cut this short. Suffice it to say we are all just fine and hoping (ok, begging) FPL will restore service to the 12,000+ people without power very soon!

*Update* At approximately 5:45p I saw a glorious sight, a line of tree cutters & FPL trucks drove by our home…within minutes our power was restored! Yippee! School resumes tomorrow and I will return to the office and try to play catch up. Ahh, AIR CONDITIONING… :)

Storm Update

Just a very brief update:
We are under a hurricane warning. Area schools & government offices are closing. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly within the next couple hours. Forecasters are still predicting a minimal hurricane hitting the Southwest Florida area in the wee hours of the morning. I’m going to be heading out of the office for the day and, at this point, I do not expect to be in tomorrow but I will pop in and update just as soon as I can. Be safe everyone. Oh and no hurricane parties without me!! :)

Heads Up, Hurricane Fay is coming our way!

An important message for my clients not located in the Southwest Florida area: It looks like Tropical Storm Fay {predicted to be hurricane Fay tomorrow} will be heading to the Southwest Florida area. While this is not predicted to become a ‘major hurricane’, we all know just how ‘predicable’ hurricanes are. Even a mild brush with the storm could be enough to damage power lines and leave us sweltering in the heat for the better part of a week. This storm is predicted reach our area late Monday or early Tuesday this week. If you are awaiting proofs or portrait shipments please expect a delay until we have cleared the path of the storm. Silly as this may sound…If there are any long term power outages you will know by my lack of communication with you.

For my local clients, many of whom I consider my friends, please take care of yourselves and stay safe. You guys know the drill. ;) Most of us Floridians know this is just a way of life, perhaps the cost of living in such a beautiful area. All you can do is prepare and pray for the best. We’ve been pretty lucky in this area since the nightmare hurricane season of 2004 (that’s a year I’d rather forget!), let’s hope our luck holds out through this year as well. :)

Holiday Schedule Updates

Just popping in to give you a quick update on my current availability. :) I know with the Florida heat and humidity beating down it’s hard to think about the upcoming holiday season. Still, my August and September calendars are filling fast! If you would like to schedule a session for fall, now is the time to call!

FYI: November 5th is the last available session date to receive portrait orders before December 25th.

Server Upgrade | Email Issues

I have received notification from my web host letting me know they will be upgrading the server used to host lifeXpressions. This upgrade is in progress and expected to be completed within the next four days. There may be some downtime during the transition, though I am crossing my fingers the transition completes without issue.

This server upgrade should not impact clients currently viewing proofs & completing their holiday orders. Our proofs are stored on a separate secure server which can be located directly by clicking this link: lifeXpressions Proofing & Ordering

I have also had a few clients mention they have attempted to email me recently and the emails are being returned or going unanswered. I believe this issue was unrelated to the server upgrade and has been rectified. However, if you have attempted to email me recently and have not received a response please resend your email. Typically emails sent to lifeXpressions are replied to within 48 hours. In the event you are still unable to reach me, my alternate email address is lifeXpressions@gmail.com.

Important Holiday Deadlines

Holidaycards

Hard to believe it but the holiday season is coming up fast & furious! I’ll be relaxing in the Bahamas the last two weeks of December and I want to be sure that my clients are well taken care of before I leave. For this reason it is important to note the following holiday deadlines:

Sessions must be held on or before November 3, 2007 to receive your portraits by December 24, 2007.
Portrait orders must be received by November 20, 2007 to ensure delivery by December, 24, 2007.

Please keep in mind the various factors that can speed up or delay your card and/or print orders when planning your upcoming holiday session. Mainly, client procrastination. ;) If selecting your portraits is a task that requires thought and preparation you will want to book early! If you can decide on your order in the blink of an eye you’ll be the better candidate for those last minute sessions. I will be doing all in my power to ensure my clients’ proofs are online quickly and their orders shipped swiftly.
