Me? You want to know about me? How exciting! Well, since you asked…

Have camera - must swim!

Our totally awesome diving adventure in the Caribbean last December lead to the death of my poor little point & shoot. Unfortunately the underwater housing I’d purchased failed at some point and the camera was toast. Some might say that I’m a little picky when it comes to photo quality (gee..ya think?) so finding a new point and shoot for those quick snaps of the kids is well, a little challenging for me. That was until yesterday! Introducing the Olympus Stylus 850 SW…

Cute little bugger isn’t it?! Not only is it totally adorable but this little guy is rugged enough to withstand a five foot fall and WATERPROOF up to 10 feet. I really didn’t hold much hope for the image quality but with such unique features I felt compelled to at least try it out for a while. Well, what can I say? I’m seriously impressed. I foresee some very FUN photos in our future together. :D

Here’s a few more snaps from a family get together today.

Hola Dora! Mi casa es tu casa!

…at least for the weekend. Nope, it’s not the adorable Dora the Explorer. Our ‘Dora’ squeaks when she laughs, thinks broccoli is better than ice cream, has cute wiggly little whiskers and big tan spots on her back. She does enjoy spending her days surrounded by preschoolers and understands her fair share of the Spanish language but I believe that’s where their similarities end. ;)

Our house guest this weekend is actually Olivia’s class Guinea Pig, Dora. To say Liv is thrilled would be an understatement! She’s doing so well feeding and caring for Dora, I’m quite impressed, although I do worry about having to explain Dora’s sudden weight gain from the overload of fresh veggies she’s been eating at our house. :D

{Sorry about the logo over your adorable snout Dora!}

What’s In Your Wallet?

During one of my late night, surf-the-net-until-you-can’t-keep-your-eyes-open-anymore adventures I stumbled on a link to Capitol One’s new photo credit cards and I thought to myself, “Self - You have a Capitol One card. You really should get a card with one of the kid’s photographs on it. As a photographer, you’re practically obligated to have one. You must order it now.” :D

Okay, so by now you’re probably thinking I’ve lost my mind. I can’t help it, this little card is seriously cute! I was even impressed by their ability to send me a card that wasn’t completely washed out or riddled with color casts. Good job C1! *snicker*

You know why they do it don’t ya? The cuter the credit card the more apt you are to show it off by using it on purchases, it’s so obvious I know. But - it’s still a cute little credit card.

So, what’s in your wallet? ha ha ha

This day in history

Perhaps I’ll have something profound to post later as I reflect on the last thirty-five years and what I’ve learned. For now, I’ll just sum it up to say that I will take thirty-five over twenty-five any day of the week.

Curiosity got the better of me, want to see what was happening in the world on the day I was born? History is fascinating to me, it is a constant reminder of the fact that life truly is a journey, not a destination.

This Day In History, June 17th, 1973.

Have a great day! :)

Happy Saturday!

We took a trip to the park this morning, the skies are so blue with the perfect amount of white fluffy clouds, just another beautiful day in paradise. Hopefully you’re having a wonderful Saturday with your family too!

This shot cost me two suckers AND a new outfit for her Barbie doll. ha ha Inflation!

Beach + Fisheye = Fun

Considering these images are from this morning’s session on Wiggins Pass in Naples, this is also a bit of a sneak peek for little Miss Berklie and her family. Berklie LOVES the beach and the water so what better place to document her sweet personality at one year old? :)

I purchased this fun little Sigma 15mm fisheye lens back in December (tax write off ya know) and I hadn’t had a chance to play with it even once until today. Some of my friends might even call that lens neglect and call in the CPS (Camera Protective Services). ha ha I have to admit, I’ve been spoiled by my Canon L glass to this point so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the Sigma line and the fisheye aspect was totally new to me. New toys are great for pushing me to try new perspectives and reaching a bit farther artistically. They challenge me to look at the setting in a new way and I love a good challenge!!

I’ll start with these lively, slightly distorted and completely adorable shots of the little water baby…

It’s a big, big world little girl!

And a more traditional style image of sweet Berkly for Mommy and Daddy…

The Anti-Guppy

I really can’t explain it. We live in Florida, beaches, swimming pools, sunshine - that’s what it’s all about. Not quite a “Florida Cracker” but having been transplanted here at the age of 7 I learned real quick that water and sand are a way of life. Everyone swims, if for no other reason than to avoid melting in the heat and humidity of South Florida. By the time I was 9 I was a member of the C.C.S.A. (aka: Swim Florida). Ahhh coppertone, spandex, and weekly meets. Sure brings back some memories. Oh and Mom, for the record, I still really really don’t like the butterfly.

Wait, I did have a point to this post. My love of the water was clearly passed down to my boys. Trevor has been swimming like a fish since he was old enough to walk and young Nick has NO fear at all, as you can see. We affectionately call him “Flounder”.

Olivia on the other hand, well, she is the Anti-Guppy. Never wants to go swimming, “Don’t splash me!” she cries, even bathtime is a nightmare when the time comes to wash her hair. But, clever Mommy that I am (hee hee) I may have found a solution - fashionable bathing dresses. Yes, you read that right. The key is to take the bathing suit off, tell her it is time to go in the house, let her know that under no uncertain terms is she allowed to go near the water. Then, and only then will the child want to swim. It’s the perfect mixture of defiance and destruction that will eventually lead to acceptance of the water. Good thing too, she begins her own swim classes next week!

You can almost read her mind, “hmm…am I going to get in trouble for this?”

img_0030-a.jpg

“Wait, is she actually getting her camera out? Yippee! Mommy has finally lost her mind!”

I love her, I really do. But those teenage years…oh my…they are going to be BRUTAL.
